Board Membership

As a not for profit organization, Shadowcliff is governed by a great group of volunteers who meet three to five times each year to set policy and plan for the future. For more information, contact Joni Teter, Board Chair at 303-812-6553 or Bob Mann at 970-627-9220.

Summer Volunteers

We need both summer staff AND volunteers. If you are interested in being in the mountains and volunteering at SC, please give Judith a call at 970-627-9220. Normally, we need volunteers who can stay for at least two-three weeks during the regular season and preferably a month whenever possible. This permits training opportunities and integration with our staff.

Memorial Day and Pre-Memorial Day Volunteers

Last season we had another record number of Memorial Day volunteers plus about 25 other volunteers who helped us in the two weeks before Memorial Day. Plan now for Memorial Day 2010 and let us know if you are available to help in the pre-Memorial Day weeks.

 Shadowcliff - emplyment application

Our mission is to provide an eco-friendly mountain sanctuary where together we are creating a climate for a restorative world. Our educational opportunities inform and connect our guests with the natural environment and teach ways that each of us can live more sustainably on the planet. We expect staff to join in helping to serve this mission.

We are looking for persons with open, searching attitudes, as well as a willingness to live with and accept persons of different views and beliefs, willing to do some hard work, learn skills, and participate in a variety of tasks. For 2010 we are looking for a great cook. If you know of someone interested in the Cook position from mid-May through September, please let us know. Our rotating staff changes each year and we are always looking for replacements. Often these are college or post college students from around the world, or persons with flexible schedules.

Summer staff assist in guest registration and hospitality, meal preparation, housekeeping, maintenance, painting, working inside and outdoors, including some physical labor to keep Shadowcliff clean and beautiful. Staff are encouraged to connect with guests in the Shadowcliff community and assist in educational opportunities, interpretative programs and hikes. Staff may also assist in program research and presentation as part of the educational work of Shadowcliff.

Daily rotation of staff assignments provides variety in the work schedule with ample opportunity to hike, backpack and explore the trails and terrain of Rocky Mountain National Park and the Arapaho and Indian Peaks Wilderness areas. Fishing, hiking, and canoeing are major free-time activities, as well as bowling, horseback riding, rafting, summer theater, local bands, etc. Trails lead directly from Shadowcliff's doorstep into Rocky Mountain National Park. Staff work an average of 30-35 hours per week with a minimum of one day off each week. Staff members are encouraged to participate in research and educational activities that further our mission.

Second jobs are not permitted for Shadowcliff staff or volunteers. If you need to earn extra money by working a second job, Shadowcliff is not the right place for you.

Compensation: Staff share rooms in Rempel Lodge at Shadowcliff. Compensation includes meals and lodging plus a monthly stipend of $450. Staff also share gratuities from the Staff Appreciation Fund. A bonus is available at the end of the season for staff completing an agreed upon contract period of three months or more.

Grand Lake is a small mountain town located 2-3 hours from any big cities and with limited bus or train transportation. There is very little night life in Grand Lake. Shadowcliff and the Grand Lake area are a great place to work if you enjoy the outdoors, love nature, like to hike or enjoy spending quiet time reading a good book or visiting with guests or friends. Grand Lake is not a good place for people who do not like nature or being out of doors.

Shadowcliff is a no-smoking facility.
